Christmas Décor Gone Wrong..?
I have lots of lighted decorations for Christmas that go up the day after Thanksgiving. My neighbors enjoy the lights and the kids love them. It takes time to lay them out so the décor doesn’t look lopsided to one side of the house or the other.
Mine show during the day and you can tell what they are.
But, what’s with the inflatables nowadays? During the day they look as if someone dropped the laundry on the front lawn. All the brightly colored piles of what appears to be laundry strung across the front yards. Even my brother got into the act and my wife started scratching her head “should we or shouldn’t we”. I squelched that idea pretty quickly. If you’re willing to put it up and take it down and store it, knock yourself out. Otherwise leave the outdoor Christmas decorating to me.
Bigger is not always better in my opinion. Yes I could put out 2 or 3 giant inflatables, throw a couple strings of lights on the tree and voila I’d be done. Have I given the neighbors something to look at? Yes. Would I have put much effort into it? No. Have I fed the neighborhood kids imagination? No. Why? Because they see the inflatable’s all over town now.
I enjoy looking out and seeing my Reindeer with golf clubs and flag pin, Penguin, Snowman, Santa and Sleigh, Bows, Candy Canes and Noel candles during the day. There’s no guesswork involved, you can tell what they are during the day and they come alive at night. Why the neighbors even bring the cameras to photograph their kids in front year after year.
Enjoy your decorating this year, make it a family affair and don’t take the shortcuts, they are tempting but you’ll enjoy the outcome in the long run.
